Reddit is popular, and many have turned to it to do research on hair transplant clinics in Turkey.
Within this articles I will discuss weather its the right place for research and how you can use it the right way.
Let’s dive in.
Reddit’s Bias Problem: User-Generated Content Over Professional Guidance
As you might know, Reddit is entirely user-generated content.
It’s great that it created an open platform to share experiences, but it does come with its limitations.
The stories are personal stories, so they give an insight into the personal stories of certain individuals.
While the stories are very relatable, you should understand that the stories shared are based on personal stories that are biased.
Moreover, they don’t represent the whole picture.
Let me explain why.
Maybe you’ve heard this before, in research we need the sample size to be of a certain size for the outcome to be considered accurate and a good representation for the whole group or research subject matter.
And that’s exactly the issue here.
User experiences are magnified, where they are just one individual experience.
It would be a different story if you have thousands of individuals sharing a similar story with a hair transplant clinic.
But I haven’t seen one yet.
The second issue with such user generated content is that most posts lack professional knowledge to be judging the hair transplant or outcome.
This is something I saw the other day.
Once person who had done a hair transplant 4 months ago asked weather the quality of the hair transplant was good or not.
Some well-intended people talked about patience, while others expressed their concerns.
Checking their profiles, I couldn’t find any expertise in hair restoration related to their profiles.
Before I share the correct answer with you.
Such individuals create only unnecessary stress for the person asking the questions.
The correct answer is that four months is very early.
But there is more to it.
Such as:
- The method that had been used.
- The level of hair loss.
- The graft allocation plan.
- The surgery plan and post-op notes.
And more.
I guess you get the point.
I am ware that we want answers very quickly and very simple. And if possible something we like to here.
Sorry to be the gamebreaker here.
That’s not how it works.
Keep this in mind next time you’re on the platform and looking for information on hair transplants.
How Self-Promotion Dominates Hair Transplant Discussions
As an industry insider, I know the Turkish Hair Transplant market pretty well.
One post related to the best hair transplant clinic in Turkey resulted in a person having a hair transplant at a clinic in Turkey, where he shared his detailed journey.
The conclusion is that the clinic he chose is the best.
We have a few issues here.
Let me explain what they are.
First of all, the sample size story.
Secondly, based on what?
What are the parameters that determined this clinic to be the best?
I’ll keep it mild here.
The person in question is not an expert, and there is no expert oversight.
At least Google is trying to deliver some kind of expert content with their E-E-A-T Guidelines.
And by the way, the person’s hair transplant results were not that great at all.
I have spotted three technical errors by studying his journey and result.
Yes, he has hair now, and before, he was balding.
And I agree, the difference is major.
But it’s like comparing a Volkswagen car with a Bently.
You don’t even need to be a car expert to see the difference.
Before we drift off.
There is another issue that I’d like to highlight.
Curtain Reddit users have claimed to be hair transplant experts.
I’ve studied their answers and noticed the following.
Most of the content the out is just promoting their clinics or their own name.
Which is fine, since PR is part of the game.
But, the quality of the answers is not really what I would consider to be top-notch.
It feels more like another lead generation channel.
Conclusion
I think it’s valuable to have platforms such as Reddit where individuals can share their experiences and a platform for discussion.
This is definitely an improvement to, let’s say, relying only on Google Reviews to make a decision.
The platform has good functionalities and can really help in penalizing bad performing companies who don’t deliver on their promises.
I really like this about the platform.
However, I don’t think the platform is the right place for expert advice.
The current structure of the platform lacks expert verification programs.
I can imagine a future where they make improvements in their algorithm where the current insufficiencies are tackled.
But for know I would use Reddit just as one of the many checklist if you are considering a hair transplant clinic in Turkey.
Good old due diligence is the survivor here. I’ve prepared a blog that fully explains expert tips for a successful hair transplant in Turkey.
